For my Golf Course Review of the Tuncurry Golf Course I think it is one of the best golf courses on the mid north coast. It's easy to be thrown by the dodgy dirt road entrance, but you are gradually reassured as you get closer and grab glimpses of the 1st/2nd/3rd fairways as you near the carpark. The club house is basic at best, but most people go there for the golf, so it's not a massive imposition.

Let's be honest, the course is damn hard and if you play to your handicap, you should be happy. That said, the course also rewards good shot making with plenty of opportunities for birdy (and 1 or 2 eagle chances) if you are aggressive AND accurate. The 3rd, 8th, 10th, 13th 15th, 17th and 18th are all stand-out holes which not only look great but challenge even the best golfers. The course is long with the par 3 9th measuring 218m, par 3 14th measuring 208m and par 4 10th measuring well over 400m.

One of the real stand-out features of the Tuncurry Golf Course is that you can play a full round without seeing any other golfers. The course is secluded and with loads of birds, occasional kangaroos and even the odd snake.

The couch fairways are awesome with no need for preferred lies. The bent greens are quite fast and a real challenge, although they run truely and reward good putting. The rough is challenging and the bush that lines most fairways is punishing. Don't go left, don't go right! Don't expect to spray it and catch the neighbouring fairway as this is rarely an option. You really do need to be straight here.

A challenging golf course with the golfing purist in mind.
